Humboldt Bay Trail Hike And Grand Opening Celebration! Walk Arcata To Eureka!

We will be meeting at NOON IN ARCATA under the south lamppost in the Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center parking lot. I'm posting a picture of this spot in this event. If I haven't met you I'll post what I'm wearing in the comments day-of, and we'll be looking for you! We'll be leaving a few minutes after noon. If you're running late, catch up with us!

There is a LOT of construction going on in the Marsh and the surrounding area. Give yourself extra time to park and get to the meeting spot. I have no idea how busy it will be at the marsh but I'm assuming the lot and nearby lots will be full. You may have to hunt around for street parking. We'll be walking a few minutes from our meeting spot to to the actual trailhead. Remember the trail will be fully exposed to the sun! Bring a hat, sunscreen, beverage etc. No word on bathrooms in the new trail section. There is one at Target.

Bus Schedule:
Buses leave 2nd and L st in Eureka on the hour until 7pm
Buses arrive in Arcata at City Corporation on South G St near the marsh every half hour later.

Prizes From The Bay Trail Celebration:
Choose your own adventure! Get out on the morning of the Grand Opening Celebration and use an app to record your Run, Walk or Jog or go from Adorni Center as far as you like and back. Find the Humboldt Bay Marathon table to submit your distance, enter a raffle, and tell us your favorite part of the new trail. While the Humboldt Bay Marathon supports this fun way of recording your own adventure, this is not a sponsored event. You run/walk/jog at your own risk.

Updates! We will be meeting up and leaving at NOON from the Arcata side! I'll post pictures of our meeting spot closer to the event. There will be a bus leaving hourly from Eureka, back to Arcata. The last bus will be at 7pm. We will also have at least one car in Eureka for anyone else who needs a ride back.

Reminder that the new bay trail is exposed, full Humboldt sun, and runs between the bay and the highway. We'll be walking about 8 miles to Eureka, then another mile to the Adorni center for the party. The trail is flat and paved. If you need off the trail, your options will be turning around, or getting picked up at Bracut or Target.

The details so far...

The Bay Trail is opening on June 28th and we're gonna walk it! We'll meet in Arcata near the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary (exact meeting spot and trailhead photos will be posted in this event) and hike about 8 flat paved/gravel/dirt miles to Eureka. From there the options are to take off, or continue walking another mile along the Bay Trail to the Adorni Center for the Grand Opening party! The party will go from 3-6pm and include beer, music, food trucks, trail partner tabling, speakers and the musical stylings of Pandemonium Jones.

Our tentative meetup time is noon in Arcata, but the times/meetups for the fun run/walk/skate/bike party haven't been announced yet. Once that's published we'll get our times finalized.

We'll be in full sun walking along the bay. Layer up, bring sun/wind protection and water, and BE PREPARED TO WALK A 20 MINUTE MILE. Hopefully the timing works out that we'll be part of the fun run/walk- pull out your crab hat, dressing up is always encouraged!

Closer to the event I'll put out a call for anyone willing to shuttle people from their cars near the Adorni in Eureka to our meeting spot in Arcata.
