Bear Mountain Monday - Sunset Hike

Come celebrate summer and join us for a fast-paced sunset climb at Bear Mountain. This is not a beginner hike, as it is a quick-paced and steep climb with no sweep.

We will meet outside the Bear Mountain Inn. We'll ascend on the Major Welch trail (red circle). After 1.65 miles, make a sharp right turn where the Major Welch and Appalachian Trails merge and follow the AT South (white rectangle) to Moon Rocks for sunset. After a break for sunset, we will descend to the inn on the AT North (white rectangle).

While we will try our best to stay together, faster hikers are not obligated to wait for slower hikers. You must feel comfortable completing the hike on your own should you fall behind or separate from the group.

The main group climbs to the elevation peak of 1200' of elevation and 1.65 miles of distance in about 45 minutes and arrives to Moon Rocks about 20 minutes before sunset. Feel free to begin the hike earlier or later based on your pacing and timing preferences.

Sunset is at 7:43pm.

TO BRING:

1. the Bear Mountain (or Harriman #119) map
2. a working/charged headlamp
3. 1-2 liters of water
4. snacks
