Bear Mountain SUMMER SOLSTICE PARTY and Sunset Hike (Juneteenth)

Join us on Juneteenth for a SUMMER SOLSTICE party where we will celebrate with chocolate, cheese, and other treats as part of a beautiful sunset climb up Bear Mountain. All participants should bring a treat to share with the group, to be enjoyed at the summit sunset location.

Park in the main parking lot #1, right in front of the Bear Mountain Inn. GPS coordinates are 41.31270, -73.98924 for parking and the meeting spot.

We will meet outside the Bear Mountain Inn. We'll ascend on the Major Welch trail (red circle). After 1.65 miles, make a sharp RIGHT TURN where the Major Welch and Appalachian Trails merge and follow the AT South (white rectangle) to Moon Rocks for sunset. After a break for sunset, we will descend to the inn on the AT North (white rectangle).

While we will try our best to stay together, you should feel comfortable completing the hike on your own should you fall behind or separate from the group.

Sunset is at 8:30pm.

1. the Bear Mountain (or Harriman #119) map
2. headlamp
3. water and snacks
4. moisture wicking layers
5. Chocolate, cheese, or other treats to share with the group!
