Kaaterskill Falls, North/South Lake Southern Escarpment Loop

The Hike: This is one of the most picturesque Spring hikes in the Catskills, especially after all the rain the last few days. The hike consist of some rolling hills and amazing views. We start at Scutt Rd Parking area and head south on the blue escarpment trail. After we pass the Kaaterskill falls, we will take the yellow Kaaterskill falls trail for half a mile to the Bastion falls, then we come back to resume on the Escarpment trail. We will pass many great view points including Inspiration point, Split rock, Artists point , Newman's ledge, with our final destination on the Escarpment trail North Point. We return left on red and right on yellow trail back to the Scutt road parking lot.

Elevation gain: About 1900'
Distance: Approx 11 miles
Duration: Approx 6-7 hrs (includes breaks)

Map: NY-NJ Trail Conf. Map #141, Avenza App, or similar mapping system.

Required gear:
Hiking boots, non-cotton moisture-wicking clothes, insulating jacket, waterproof jacket, hat, gloves, microspikes, trekking poles, extra food & water, working headlamp & spare batteries, related map & compass and/or GPS app with trails downloaded, first aid, sun protection.

NOTE: You are responsible for bringing appropriate gear, supplies, clothing, first aid, and lights. You should review topographic maps and trail features carefully; understanding topography of any hike is key to your knowing where you are, where you're going, and how to get back.
