Storm King & Butter Hill - Moderate pace - 5.5 miles - great views!!

The Hike: There are great river views on this hike along with views of Breakneck, Schunnemunk, Minnewaska, Mohonk and the Catskills. We start hiking at 9am from the Etsie & Hellie Stowell trailhead (an old farm), 42 Bayview Avenue, Cornwall. There's NO sweep. There are several long uphills and a couple short rock scrambles on this route. The pace will be moderate (not slow) with brief stops at several nice viewpoints.
The route:
- From kiosk in parking lot head through field on teal trail.
- After 7/10th mile, turn to left on yellow trail.
- Stay on yellow up and over north side of Storm King - about 2.3mi

• Turn left onto blue trail.
• At white trail, turn right and continue to rt. 9w.
• Ascend Orange Trail to yellow.
• At yellow, turn tight and go up to Butter Hill summit .
• Go downhill from summit to the blue/red trail.
• Take blue/red to yellow.
• turn left onto yellow and continue to teal.
• Turn tight onto teal and continue to parking lot.

Distance: Approx 5.5 miles
Pace: average moderate 2.3- 2.4mph
Duration: Approx 2,5 - 3 hours
Elevation Gain: approx 1,450 feet
Difficulty: - Rocky trails; short rock scrambles
Map: NY-NJ Trail Conference Map #113; Avenza mapping app; or similar maps/apps
Gear: water, snacks, etc. Appropriate footwear, ; moisture-wicking clothing. Poles may be helpful.
