Catskills 3500 Burroughs range - Wittenberg, Cornell, Slide Traverse

We will meet at the Slide Mountain parking area at 7:15am sharp (42.00863, -74.42763) we will consolidate into as few cars as possible and drive over to Woodland Valley campground, which is about 34 minutes drive. We will take the Wittenberg-Cornell-Slide trail to traverse the Burroughs Range. We will climb Wittenberg Mountain (elev. 3783), make our way through the infamous "Cornell Crack" to summit Cornell Mountain (elev. 3852) and finally climb a wood ladder to reach the summit of Slide Mountain (elev. 4154). We will descend into the Slide Mountain parking area on Olivera Rd (Route 47).

The entire hike will be on Red trail, except for the last .3 miles on Yellow to connect to the Slide Trail Head.

This is not a beginner hike, know your limitations and experience. You should be getting regular cardio workouts and should have hiked a route equal in length recently. We will do our best to keep the group together, but faster hikers are not obligated to wait for slower hikers. Hike your own hike. Have a map, Garmin or navigation APP and be able to navigate and read the topo.
