**I'm unable to hike at this time as the result of a procedure. Michael Spencer will be the leader and host for this event, He's done this hike numerous times. Mike C.
We start at the Old Toll House lot (very small lot with building next to the road) on Rt. 6/202.. Camp Smith Trail.
The Hike: We start hiking at 8:00am so please arrive earlier. Moderate pace. There are nice viewpoints overlooking the Hudson River both south and north of the Bear Mtn. Bridge. There's no sweep. Hikers who choose to hike faster or at a more casual pace should just follow the described route.
The route:
- From the old Bear Mtn. Bridge toll house, take the blue Camp Smith Trail ~3.1 miles to Anthony's Nose viewpoint looking over the bridge..
- After a break at the Nose, re-connect with blue trail and return to toll house.
Distance: approx. 6.3 miles
Pace: moderate 2.2 - 2.3mph average pace
Elevation gain: Approx 2,000 feet
Difficulty: Several short rock scrambles; rocky trails
Time: approx about 3.5 hours includes break at the Nose
Map: NY-NJ Trail Conf. Map #101; Avenza map app; or similar mapping systems.
Gear: water, snacks. Layers for changing temps. . Poles may be helpful for some.
