North Point Hike (next to Storm King) Beginner Sunrise Hike

Details

North Point - hike to great views of the Hudson and the Highlands!

Distance: ~3.5 miles

Elevation gain: Less than 1000 feet

Time: ~2 hours

Gear: Water, snacks if you wish, hiking boots, warm-weather wicking clothing

Parking is in a small lot right along 9W North. If you are approaching via 9W South, you will have to get off at Route 218 and get right back on 9W North to access the parking lot. This lot does not hold many cars, so I am limiting the number of people on this hike. You will reach this lot BEFORE you reach the main large Storm King lot.

This hike climbs to the north peak of what is known as Crow's Nest Mountain, with many spectacular viewpoints over the Hudson River and the Highlands. We will watch the sunrise there before walking out to Pitching Point. We follow the white blazed Bobcat trail to its end, then bear right on the blue blazed Howell trail and climb up the ridge to the wonderful view from North Point. After taking in the views, we will hike further around the side of the mountain to another viewpoint where we can see Cold Spring and Little Stony Point across the river. We will then retrace our steps and return the way we came.
