Location: Kakiat County Park parking at GPS: 41.145615, -74.113168
Directions: From Suffern, proceed north on U.S. Route 202. The entrance to Kakiat County Park is on the left (west) side of the road, just opposite the entrance to the Viola School. *** Note that this entrance is easy to miss. It is easier to spot the sign for the Viola school. The entrance to Kakiat is directly across from the Viola school sign.***

Description: This hike is rated Strenuous due to a significant cumulative elevation gain, especially the long climb at the beginning.

Detailed Route: We will take the Mountain (Orange) trail uphill, making a left onto the Kakiat (White) trail and then a right onto the Raccoon Brook Hills (Black on white) trail. We will climb and descend Raccoon Brook Hill and then take the Poached Egg (Yellow on White) trail to Pine Meadow Lake. We will take a woods road clockwise along the lake to the Pine Meadow trail (Red Square on White), continue along the lake on the Pine Meadow trail to Conklins Crossing (White), which we will take to the SBM (Suffern Bear Mountain) (Yellow). We'll make a right on the SBM, which has many ups and downs, and return to the Kakiat trail, go left on the Kakiat and take this trail downhill back to the parking lot.

NOTE: You are responsible for bringing appropriate gear, supplies, clothing, first aid, and lights. You should review topographic maps and trail features carefully; understanding topography of any hike is key to your knowing where you are, where you're going, and how to get back.
