As of late October 2025, the trail system in the southern section of
Norvin Green State Forest
has been significantly reblazed and reconfigured. New loop trails were created and several trail colors changed to improve navigation. It is strongly recommended to download or print a current map before visiting, as some sections may not be well-marked
From the parking lot, take the Red/Black trail to the brook then cross the brook to Highlands trail Teal (HT), coaligned with Red (R). Make a right turn on HT/R, heading 3/4 mile down to the white trail junction. Turn left on HT/R, past the Chikahoki Falls to the Carris Hill trail (on left). Ascend Carris Hill through two rock scrambles to some good vistas and then to the summit.
Stay on HT/R past Carris Hill until it splits, stay to the right on HT which connect to Purple (P). Turn right on HT/P to High point. When it splits, stay on HT to connect to the Orange (O) Mine trail. Doing the Mine trail loop is optional , depending on the group and trail condition, we may opt to skip that. After the Orange loop, we trace or way back to HT/P, to continue the High point loop. After the loop, take the HT connector back to Red, turn right on R to finish the Wyanoke Circular loop , back to Otter hole parking lot.
Hiking boots, Micro spikes, Poles may be helpful, Layering as needed (temperature will be 30 low/ 50 high), gloves, hat etc.
