Kubernetes and Microservices powering modern Consumer Banking

Details

Traditional Banking backends are monolithic, slow to change and almost impossible to maintain. In today's world our consumers expect new features and exceptional user experience that's always improving. One way this can be achieved is by designing systems that are modular, agile, extensible, and sustainable. Using micro-services and kubernetes, we can fulfill these promises.

In this meetup, we will explore the shortcomings of traditional consumer banking systems and how using micro-services and kubernetes can improve that. We will discuss real-world use cases of kubernetes in banking. Finally, we will showcase a demo application that was inspired by Monzo.

Learning Objectives - Upon competing the workshop attendees should learn the following:

  • What is missing from banking today
  • Why kubernetes for financial services
  • Break an application down to a set of micro-services
  • Create and manage a Kubernetes cluster on IBM Cloud
  • Deploy to a Kubernetes cluster on IBM Cloud
  • Deploy to IBM Cloud
