How can fantasy football managers possibly sift through all of the news, analysis, and statistics generated about their players on a weekly basis in order to make more informed decisions?

Join IBM Distinguished engineers Aaron Baughman & Stephen Hammer as they explore the exciting ways sports leagues and entertainment events are taking advantage of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms and machine learning to improve the fan experience.

In this session, Aaron and Stephen will discuss how they solved key challenges for the US Open, Wimbledon, The Masters, and ESPN Fantasy Football by leveraging:

• AI Highlights: Incorporating acoustic analysis with visual data to automatically surface key moments and video highlights within a game or tournament
• Debiasing: Detecting unintended bias and unethical AI technologies with fairness metrics and correcting them with mitigation techniques
• Scalability: Dockerizing multiple solutions to provide scalability and reliability using containers
• Natural Language Processing: utilizing IBM Watson’s capabilities to analyze natural language to provide recommendations for Fantasy Football players

About the speakers:

Stephen Hammer is IBM's Sports CTO and an IBM Distinguished Engineer. From within IBM's iX unit, he leads the delivery team for IBM's major event projects including the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, US Open Tennis Championships, the Grammy Awards, the Masters Golf Tournament, ESPN Fantasy Football and Pebble Beach Golf Resort. He has worked on IBM's portfolio of major event projects for the last 22 years and has worked on over 150 major event projects over the course of his career. Automated digital content workflows are a key interest area of Stephen's including the use of AI in the creation and management of video content.

Aaron K. Baughman is a Distinguished Engineer and Master Inventor within IBM Interactive Experience focused on AI and Emerging Technology. He has worked with ESPN, all 4 tennis grand slams, The Masters, USGA, Grammys, Tony Awards, Watson Jeopardy! and classified gov't agencies. Aaron holds a BS in CS from Georgia Tech, a MS in CS from Johns Hopkins and certificates from the Disney Institute and Coursera. He holds 130 patents with over 100 pending.
