In a very short period of time, COVID-19 has brought modern life to a screeching halt, disrupting our healthcare, education and economic systems. But we can fight back – with technology.

The 2020 Call for Code Global Challenge has expanded to take on COVID-19 in addition to climate change. Come learn how open source technology can help combat the impacts of the COVID-19 global pandemic, from improving crisis communications to fostering remote learning and community cooperation.

Some developers may know what they want to build for Call for Code, but for those who don't, there are starter kits. In this webinar we will be presenting the Crisis Communication starter kit to help you understand the scope of the problem and start building applications tied to easy-to-understand use cases in a matter of minutes using services on the IBM Cloud.

Speakers :

John Walicki (@johnwalicki) the CTO for Edge/IoT Advocacy in the Developer Ecosystem Group of IBM Cognitive Applications Group. As an IBM Developer Advocate with deep expertise in IoT, he inspires developers to build solutions with the powerful Watson IoT capabilities, Watson Cognitive APIs and IBM Cloud. He helps developers create custom IoT and embedded Linux solutions for their industrial and educational use cases.

Pooja Mistry (@poojamakes) is a developer advocate for IBM Cloud. She works on expanding the reach of IBM's technology to New York City's developer community. Her area of interest includes prototyping with NodeRED and working with AI services to build fun and interesting things! She mainly works in Javascript and Java, however, she tinkers with Python. She is currently passionate about Node-RED and building IoT applications using Node-RED services. She is a strong believer in helping new technologists get up and running with technology and feel confident in their abilities to make!

Daniel Krook (@DanielKrook) is the Chief Technology Officer of Call for Code, a multiyear competition that inspires developers to create sustainable software solutions to the world's most pressing problems. He ensures that those ideas are delivered where they can make the greatest impact as CTO of the IBM Code and Response Initiative.

Upkar Lidder (@lidderupk) is a Full Stack Developer and Data Wrangler with a decade of development experience in a variety of roles. He can be seen speaking at various conferences and participating in local tech groups and meetups. He is currently curious about magic behind Machine Learning and Deep Learning, specifically use of NLP in chatbots. Upkar went to graduate school in Canada and currently resides in the United States.
