The Wool Translator
by Tim Schooley
The Wool Translator, a historical fiction odyssey set in fifteenth century Europe, traces two child prodigies from countries divided by distance, religion and ancient prejudices. Newt is from England, Aisha from the Nasrid Kingdom of Andalusia. They meet against all odds only to have warfare drive them apart. In their effort to reunite they are helped by their tutor, Peter, a young priest from the Universities of Paris. But Peter has a goal of his own: to rescue Arabic books from the libraries of Granada before that last city of the Nasrids falls to the Castilian and Aragonese monarchs, Isabel and Ferdinand.
4.6 on Goodreads:
"Let Tim Schooley be your master guide through the Iberian Peninsula of the fifteenth century, in the final days of the Reconquista—the colliding cultures, the competing armies, the warring religions. 'The Wool Translator' is an astonishing work of art and history. Read it."
