The Moral Compass: Building the Culture We Want to Pass On to Our Kids
Details
NOTE: NO POT LUCK NOW!! We'll be bringing some sandwiches, chips and dessert for your lunch. Please bring your own drink but we'll have some coffee. We're asking for a $10 donation to help cover some of the library costs and food. Let us know when you sign up your sandwich preference.
What kind of moral legacy are we leaving for the next generation?
How can secular families raise thoughtful, compassionate, and ethical kids—without relying on religion?
Join us for an insightful and inspiring talk by our member, Aaron Carter, who will lead a discussion on how nonreligious people can intentionally shape the values, culture, and critical thinking we pass on to children. This event is for anyone—parents, grandparents, educators, mentors, or simply concerned citizens—who believes in raising the next generation with reason, empathy, and integrity.
Talk Highlights:
- Why secular morality is not just possible, but powerful
- Strategies for raising ethical kids without religious frameworks
- Navigating cultural messages, media, and conflicting influences
- Creating new humanist traditions and value-based legacies
After Aaron's talk, we'll open the floor for group discussion. Come ready to share, listen, and reflect.
Discussion prompts will include:
- What shaped your own moral compass growing up?
- How do you teach empathy and fairness without relying on “divine command”?
- What should our secular cultural legacy look like?
