Hello and welcome to IGDA DC! 👋😊

We’re the Washington, D.C. chapter of the International Game Developers Association! As you may have guessed, we’re based in the DC-metro region, but currently meeting exclusively online and excited to meet friends from anywhere or any part of the games industry! Whether you’re a dev, student, educator, critic, or just plain interested, join in our bi-monthly Discord meetings on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month (at 6:30 PM EST!) for our Indie Game Night and Speaker Night! We can’t wait to play games together! 🎲🎮📱

The precarious nature of work in the video game industry has been well documented in books like Press Reset. Many developers are now forming unions at their workplaces as a way to gain a more powerful voice for their interests as part of the industry. Can forming unions in the game industry help developers achieve fulfilling and sustainable careers? Come to our panel and find out for yourself!

Our panel will include members in the following unions:

United Video Game Workers

We'll hear about their journey to gain representation, the different types of unions, and what their unions are looking to accomplish. At the end, we'll have time for Q&A with the developers.

Do want to create an amazing game, meet cool people, and learn new skills? We are going to be hosting a game jam starting on June 27th!

A game jam is a dedicated time to try making a game from start to finish. You can build your game development skills, network with other game developers, and finish with a cool project that you can share! We are open to all experience levels, from people who make games professional to people who have never made a game before.

It's Indie Dev Night! Bring your games that you've made, your game idea, or just your passion for game development! This is an informal event to talk game development with like-minded folks.

A game development Working Session involves 3 key parts:

Tell people what you're going to do

Actually do stuff

Show people what you did

What to bring: Laptop, Charger, maybe a power strip if you have one handy, any other game development tools you need. Try to download any software you need before the working session. There is Wifi at this location, but it may be slow if you have to download any large files.
