About us
Do you like watching great independent films in old-school movie theaters? Let’s meet up at Glenwood Fine Arts Theatre and a few other places to watch old classics and future classics and then discuss them afterwards at local restaurants or coffee houses. It's about new perspectives, the big screen and enjoying the company of other cineastes. Additional live theater performances in the KC area will be added as available.

"The Stranger"
Glenwood Arts Theater, 3707 W 95th St, Overland Park, KS, USThis is a new (2025) film adaptation of the 1942 book by Albert Camus, exploring one particular (fictional) existential life. I've seen the 1967 film directed by Luchino Visconti and starring Marcello Mastroianni, which I found thought-provoking but, though true to the original, not particlarly well-delivered. (Operatic ennui?) I'll be interested to see how this one compares.

Dr Nacer Khelouz will explore Camus and Algeria, drawing on his expertise in Francophone literature, colonial and post-colonial studies, and contemporary French culture. So, ... this may run long. I don't yet know the format (e.g., before, after, both?) so we'll play it by ear whether we want to go out for a snack and discussion following the event.)5 attendees
