Repo Man (1984) is widely considered an independent film and is often cited as one of the greatest indie sci-fi movies ever made. It was written and directed by Alex Cox and gained cult classic status due to its independent spirit, punk rock soundtrack, and production outside of the traditional major studio system.

Repo Man is a 1984 sci-fi comedy about a young punk named Otto who becomes a repo man and gets entangled in a high-stakes search for a mysterious 1964 Chevrolet Malibu containing otherworldly, possibly alien, contents. The movie is a satirical look at 1980s L.A. culture, featuring a bizarre mix of characters, including rival repo agencies, government agents, UFO conspiracy theorists, and other oddballs, all after the car for its lucrative prize and strange cargo.
