Let's Talk Movies (Outside)!

It’s summer time and we are going to celebrate by talking about movies in a park.

We will start with "Last Movie Seen", a roundtable discussion about a movie that you have recently seen. Come prepared to share a short description about the plot (no spoilers), how you saw it, and whether you recommend it or warn against it. It's a great way to develop a list of movies to check out.

For our second discussion, we will program drive-in double features. We will go around the table. Each person will suggest a movie for the first film for a drive-in double feature. We will then get a suggestion from everybody for the second film in that double bill. I hope to show one of the suggested double features outside at my house at a later date. I am hoping for a double feature that runs a total of about 3 hours.

We are meeting at the Picnic Knoll. These are a set of 3 very long picnic tables that are just to the right of the playground found off the Broad Ripple Avenue parking lot. Many of us bring our own lawn chairs because picnic tables are hard.

If the Indianapolis weather does not cooperate that day, we will move the meetup to the shelter that is behind and to the left of the playground. Check this site for comments.

We're having a joint event with the Japanese Language and Culture Meetup Group. This Meetup will be a casual discussion of Japanese live-action movies. All are welcome from diehard Japanese film enthusiasts to those new to the cinema and curious to learn more.

We'll make the restaurant reservation on the Sunday before the meeting. If you must cancel, please try to do so before this time.

Certified Copy (French: Copie conforme) is a 2010 art film written and directed by Abbas Kiarostami. Set in Tuscany, the film focuses on a British writer (William Shimell) and a French antiques dealer (Juliette Binoche), whose relationship undergoes an odd transformation over the course of a day. The film is a co-production of France, Italy and Belgium. Tickets are $12.00 per person. The film starts at 1 PM so meet-up time is 12:30 PM to give us time to socialize before the film. We'll be sitting near the concession stand before the film. Hope to see you there!

Join us for our monthly movie discussion on Zoom! First up will be our regular icebreaker round where we go “around the room” and invite everyone to talk about a movie you’ve watched recently. Give us a short summary, how you saw it and a recommendation or a warning.

In the second hour we'll discuss our movie of the month Sorcerer (1977), a dramatic thriller directed by William Friedkin. The story follows four drifters in Central America who are hired to drive trucks carrying dynamite through the mountains. It's based on the same novel as the 1950s French classic The Wages of Fear.

Info for Zoom Meetups: Indy Film Buffs operates on Eastern time. The Zoom link will be added to the Meetup event shortly before start time. If you're on the "Going" list but can't see the Zoom link at 7, please message me (Helen) via direct Meetup message and I'll reply with the link. As a best practice to avoid Zoom bombing, attendees who JOIN the meeting with camera off will be removed from the Zoom meeting. I stop monitoring the waiting room about 7:15 (you can message me if you know you'll be running late).
