The cinema known worldwide as J-Horror encompasses monster movies, psychological dread, ghost stories, tales of the macabre, chilling folk tales, and more. It's influenced filmmakers outside of Japan since the 1950s, inspiring remakes, imitators, and homage. J-Horror in turn has picked up on trends and new filmmaking styles from Hollywood and elsewhere.
