Indy Film Buffs Meetup Group

Join us for our monthly movie discussion on Zoom! First up will be our regular icebreaker round where we go “around the room” and invite everyone to talk about a movie you’ve watched recently. Give us a short summary, how you saw it and a recommendation or a warning.

For our second hour discussion topic we'll discuss the movie of the month. The 2026 series theme is a directors survey. January's movie is Grizzly Man (2005), a documentary by Werner Herzog.

Info for Zoom Meetups: Indy Film Buffs operates on Eastern time. The Zoom link will be added to the Meetup event shortly before start time. If you're on the "Going" list but can't see the Zoom link at 7, please comment or message me (Helen) via direct Meetup message and I'll reply with the link. As a best practice to avoid Zoom bombing, attendees who JOIN the meeting with camera off will be removed from the Zoom meeting. I stop monitoring the waiting room about 7:15 (you can message me if you know you'll be running late).

Indy Film Buffs is a long-established movie club in Indianapolis. Movie lovers from anywhere in the country are welcome to join our Zoom discussions. If you live in Indy, we invite you to join us at some of our in-person events as well.

The Indy Cinema Series at Central Library will be screening "Ripley's Game" Directed by Liliana Cavani on the big screen theater in Clowes Auditorium (300 seats). Free and open all.

Based on Patricia Highsmith's third book in "The Talented Mr. Ripley" series — an art connoisseur, harpsicord aficionado, master of soufflés, and genius of improvisational fraud, Tom Ripley finds his complacency shaken when his style and taste are belittled by a dying, mild-mannered picture framer at a local party. While an ordinary sociopath might repay the insult with some mild act of retribution, Ripley has in mind a far subtler and more sinister plan. Once getting to know the hard working picture framer, Ripley reconsiders, realizing his plan too severe, reluctantly deciding to help, diving back into his old of game of tricks, forgery, and crime.

We will meet 10 minutes before showtime at 5:40 p.m. in the lobby to meet and greet. After the film, Braden and Jason will host/meet at The Flatiron Restaurant at 605 North Pennsylvania St. (few blocks away) at 8:10 p.m. to discuss what we just saw. All are welcome to come and discuss the film.

Let's Talk Movies (in a restaurant)
We will start with a roundtable discussion of "Last Movie Seen." Come prepared to talk about a movie that you have seen recently. Share a brief plot description (no spoilers) and your reaction to the movie. Feel free to join in the discussion as the "Last Movie Seen" moves around the table.
For our second discussion topic, we will be celebrating Black Film History Month. We ask that you share 2 favorite black films from before 2016 and 2 others from the last 10 years. We will discuss if there has been a surge in the number of higher profile black films and the reasons.
