About us
The world sucks- wanna know why? Great! Then there's a pair of us, please do advertise!
The upside is that very many prestigious universities have their syllabi online for free! Inequality Studies and Cultural Studies syllabi from many prestigious universities are widely available online and there is a lot in these syllabi that anyone would find fascinating. I propose we read and discuss; it'll be like a DIY Liberal Arts degree but with info that might be a bit more relevant to our immediate lives than the finer points of renaissance literature. I would also love to do a debate or something like that every month if folks are interested.
Anyone who loves a good video essay will recognize a lot of names- DuBois, Bourdieu, Veblen etc., We will be looking at how culture reproduces inequality, how this affects our choice of dating partners, how what we see on Television shapes not what we think but what we think about etc., This is going to be a lot of structured fun because it's literally just about the lives we are living so I hope you consider joining.
I really believe many of us are curious about the world around us but don't have the means to understand it so here's a shot at doing something about that. The point of this is to be accessible however. We will be reading simplified versions of overly dense texts and reading no more than 20 pages a week unless the group decides otherwise. There is no requirement to join besides curiosity!
