Birds of Mt. Spokane with Tim O'Brien

The mountain calls! In the Spokane area, there are a few unique locations that provide an opportunity to see some species of birds that do not exist anywhere else in Spokane County. Come enjoy the cool and damp forest at lower elevations, then explore higher up where the subalpine species start to take hold, and lastly, what surprises may be hiding on the summit of the mountain?
This trip will mainly be a walking/hiking trip where we will explore Lower Kit Carson to Smith Gap, Bald Knob Campground to Upper Kit Carson, the CCC cabin, the summit and Vista House area, and if time permits a walk from Selkirk Lodge to Nova Hut. Please come prepared with food, drink, a Discover Pass (if driving), and the ability to walk up to 8 miles on varied terrain. Vault toilets are available throughout the park. A lunch break will be provided.
Please meet at 7:20am at the former Bear Creek Lodge (this is just outside the park entrance) where a Discover Pass is required to park. We will carpool up the mountain from there. Special note: If the summit road is closed, then we will walk up to Bald Knob and perhaps higher. Target species include: American Goshawk, Dusky Grouse, Bohemian Waxwing, Hermit Thrush, Steller's Jay, Chestnut-backed Chickadee, and more.
