Moving Meditation

Inner Way LA

Wednesdays at 7pm This class is open anyone and everyone. No experience needed! Moving meditation for gentle people also known as Tai Chi is practiced worldwide by tens of millions of people, ranging in age from the very young to the very old. In addition to relaxing the body and mind, the art of Tai Chi will contribute to overall fitness and health. Tai Chi Chuan helps to balance energy within the body thereby improving a number of conditions such as backache, headache, high blood pressure, stomach disorders and poor metabolism. About Ara Elian With over 40 years of experience in wholistic healing as well as martial arts, Ara brings a dynamic and compassionate style to his teaching. Firmly rooted in the belief of "No Student Left Behind", Ara will always emphasize quality. Sliding Scale: $10; No one refused admission due to lack of funds.

Meditation Series: Licensed to Chill

Inner Way LA

Learn how to start a meditation practice, what to meditate on, and the point of meditation. Meditator, DJ and Music Producer Darin McFadyen (aka FreQ Nasty, Dub Kirtan All-Stars, Yoga of Bass) will explore the initial stages of the Samatha-Vipassana Mindfulness technique as taught by his meditation teacher Upasaka Culadasa. Classes are informal and suitable for all levels so please leave your weapons at home. Happily offered by Middle Way LA and Yoga of Bass. Darin has trained in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition under Lama Marut, and he’s currently a student of Meditation Master Upasaka Culadasa. Darin also teaches a series of talks with Claire Thompson both live and online at YogaofBass.com highlighting the intersection between Music, Art and Spirituality.

Girlie Stories

Drop into a Girlie Stories Gathering to join an instant community of womyn-identifying folks empowering themselves and each other via personal storytelling! Every last Saturday of the month, we'll check in with each other, experience some playtime with a community building activity, and then we'll share our stories! *** Please RSVP to [masked] if you'll be in attendance. This month's theme is FIRE. Please email Johanna at [masked] if you'd like to share a personal story based on this theme. Or just come to listen! You are welcome to tell your story with or without notes. Girlie Stories believes that all of us have stories worth hearing and that all of us are storytellers! We welcome womyn with all levels of performance/writing experience, including none! Come to tell a story or just to listen and share space with other womyn. Please bring a snack or drink to share. $5 suggested donation or whatever you can afford, though all are welcome regardless of ability to pay and nobody will be turned away due to lack of funds. FACILITATOR BIO: Johanna Middleton is an artist and arts educator with a passion for creating spaces for others to share their own stories. She is the creator of Girlie Stories, which provides a platform for women and girls to empower themselves via personal storytelling through monthly gatherings, workshops, and productions. Johanna has performed her original pieces as a storyteller with KPCC's Unheard LA, Rogue Machine's Rant and Rave, iO West, Upright Citizens Brigade, The Last Bookstore, and even the Long Beach Transit! She debuted her first solo theatre piece, Timeline:27, a participatory storytelling show, at the Santa Monica Playhouse. As an arts educator and arts-based facilitator, she has worked with students of all ages in Chicago and Los Angeles. She is currently the Student Program Coordinator at Greenway Arts Alliance. She has facilitated storytelling and theatre workshops for UCLA, Black Women for Wellness, WeRise LA, and more.

Community Drum Circle

Inner Way LA

Please join us as we celebrate life, community and music-making while living in the present moment. Drum circles are known to create a sense of community and a powerful shared experience while integrating body, mind and spirit. Studies have shown that drumming lowers blood pressure and stress hormones, releasing endorphins in the human brain that cause feelings of happiness and euphoria. Absolutely no musical experience necessary. The only prerequisite is an intention to have fun! All are welcome. We encourage you to bring your own drum if you have one. Drum Circle Facilitator Dario Sanchez earned his bachelor's degree in psychology and music. Since 2014 he has served the community working with non-profits tackling social issues, such as mental health, homelessness, and drug addiction. in 2015 he discovered the dharma and has since incorporated his practice into both his personal and professional life.
