Let’s explore (hike, cycle, walk etc.) and do a picnic lunch on Angel Island. Meet at 9:00 am at the wooden benches between boarding Gate B at the left corner of the Ferry Building. We will take the 9:25 am ferry (see SF & Tiburon weekend ferry schedules in photo section)

OK to meet in line or on the ferry if you are late. Please get a clipper card as it will save you $5-7 each way. There are no ticket sales on the island. You can buy a clipper card at Bay Crossing in the ferry building. Walk thru center entrance. The store will be on your right. As Sat is very crowded due to Farmers Market around the building and parking Is difficult , plz take driving, parking, & buying ticket times into consideration. You may wish to consider Parking elsewhere and take the Muni to Ferry Building instead. If you missed the 9:25 am, the next ferry is at 11:10 am. Please be punctual.

IMPORTANTT:

  1. Before you get off the ferry, go use its clean and large restroom because there will be a long line to use the one on Angel Island.

  2. As soon as you get off the Pier, there is a shaded Area to the right of the Pier. We will assemble at the side facing the water first for a briefing before starting.

Option 1: hike up to Mt Livermore to get a breathtaking view of GG Bridge & surroundingss. Then be down in time for lunch

Option 2– walk around the perimeter of island

Option 3– Walk to Immigration detention station. There’s a museum that preserve many of the personal belongings of immigrants. Admission is $5 if you want to look inside. This place reminded me of Ellis island in NYC.

Option 4 — Take a paid shuttle tour around the island

Option 5 — If you bring family and friends who just want to laze around, I’ll show you the spot where you can wait for us there

**Bring swimsuit , towel, food, beverages, games, hammock music, hat & sun block etc. Dress for the hot weather & stay hydrated at all times. If we have time to play throwing water balloons at each otherr , plz bring a change of clothes *

Note: the immigration station was built to process thousands of immigrants from 80 countries. It was actually a tool for enforcing the discriminatory Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882.

The policy was also designed to make it very difficult for Asians, particularly Chinese nationals, to immigrate to the US. It had the practical effect of making the immigration station a detention camp for many Chinese & other Asians.

EVENT FEE:
An event fee of $8 ($5 for seniors >60) will be collected to support programs for children, (esp. orphans and foster kids) for every hiking and outdoor activity organize by In Support of Children BayArea Hiking Group.

One such program will teach skills that will enable above children to earn a living when they leave the system at age 18. Not only will the skill give them some degree of financial independence, but will also boost their confidence and morale.

Between now and the end of this year, we hope at least 10,000 participants will come support our hikes & other activities to enable us to raise sufficient fund to get this program going. If you enjoy organizing & like to help help achieve this goal, please DM me. Together, we can make it happen sooner. Thank you for your support.
