There are at least 7 alternative top down methods published to evaluate the measurement uncertainty for chemical and microbiological laboratories. They make use of the method performance data readily available from your validation process and PT programs. These MU estimation approaches are:
- Using precision, reproducibility and trueness (ISO 21748:2004)
- Using intermediate reproducibility and bias (ISO 11352)
- Using quality control chart method (ASTM D 6299)
- Using linear relationship of tested results of CRM against the referenced values (ISO 11095)
- Using a Monte Carlo method (JCGM 101 Supplement 1)
- Logarithmic transformation of microbiological counts (A2LA Guide G108)
- Using the experience model of the Horwitz equation
