Intermediate and Beyond Volleyball

This group is for adults (university and older) looking to be active, make friends, and play some Intermediate B+ level volleyball! Courtesy and respectfulness are paramount. We want this to be competitive but most importantly fun and welcoming!

By joining this group and participating in any events, you acknowledge and agree to the following:
Participation in volleyball and related activities involves inherent risks of including permanent injuries or death. All participants join and play at their own risk.
Group organizers rent courts and organize games solely for the convenience of participants and are not responsible for injuries, accidents, loss, or damage occurring before, during, or after events.
By joining and attending events, you agree not to hold organizers, administrators, volunteers, or fellow participants liable for injuries or damages resulting from participation.
Participants are responsible for their own health, safety, and personal property.
Participants agree to behave respectfully toward other players and facilities and follow reasonable safety instructions.

We pretty much exclusively play 4v4 beach volleyball. It is a sand court, but we allow players to use some indoor rules (Some tipping and set overs are allowed. This will be up to the discretion of the players at the time.). Please refer to the specific events for details.

We use rotational play. No one plays in a permanent assigned spot. Players should be able to play in all positions.

We trial all new players. No Exceptions.
We have a high demand for these events and not enough spots.
To pass the trial, we just want to see that you meet the Critical Traits and Pre-Reqs shown below:

Critical Traits:

1. Respectful to other players
2. Positive attitude
3. Willingness to learn and improve
4. Consistent, non-chaotic gameplay

Pre-Reqs:

• Strong understanding of the rules.
• Strong control of momentum and spatial awareness.
• Knows what a setter is and their role on the team.
• Consistent pass/set/serve/hit consistency.
• Understands that 3 touches per side is the best way to score points.
• Good mobility to go for tough balls.

Once accepted, we want to players continually improve on the following:

• Understands nuances of rotational play (e.g. covering).
• Strategic hit/serve placement
• Playing around the net (e.g. blocking, cuts, dinks).
• Very consistent and refined gameplay.
• Advanced volleyball techniques (back sets, spiking, float/jump serves)

If a player cannot improve much beyond being a low-B player, we will have conversations about what can be done to remedy this. We want to have great gameplay, not acceptable gameplay. Players may be dropped at the hosts discretion, but it will come with prior warnings.

We view this group as a way to get B players to improve to a BB and A rating.
Our players will typically range from low-B to high-BB.
