Internationals and expats in Leuven (by International House)

Ever find yourself mulling over life's big questions after a long day? Like what it means to live well, or why anything matters at all? You're not alone! Come pull up a chair, grab a drink, and join a friendly bunch of curious minds for some thoughtful conversation.

This group is all about creating a relaxed, welcoming space where we can explore meaningful questions together. No lectures, no gatekeeping, just a chance to hear different perspectives, share your own, and maybe walk away with a few new ideas (or at least a better question than the one you started with).

No philosophy background required, just an open mind and a willingness to chat (or just listen). Each session loosely centers on a topic picked by the group from suggestions we all pitch in (via a dedicated WhatsApp group). Themes can range from love and hate, to society and politics, family and friendship, harmony and conflict, and beyond.

Whether you've never touched a board game in your life or you're a complex Euro aficionado, you'll definitely find like-minded people to share your evening with. Depending on the mood and the attendees, you might find yourself in a big group trying to cobble together word meanings from obscure clues in Codenames, engaging in an intense duel in 7 Wonders: Duel, struggling to build the perfect deck in Dominion, or diving into the mechanics of Brass: Birmingham for the first time.

We’ll provide a variety of games from our collection to ensure everyone has something to play, but don’t hesitate to bring your own games if you're ready to teach them!

If you’re new to Leuven, board games are a great way to meet new people, share enjoyable moments, and engage in a fulfilling activity. Don’t be afraid to register!

The event starts at 7 PM at International House Leuven. and happens every first and third Thursday of the month! You can find all the event dates on meetup.

Morgane seriously got into board games in 2020, lacking a big group, she started to build her own collection out of mostly two player games. She enjoys complex euro games with deep mechanics, fun social games and a lot in between!

Thomas has been living in Leuven for four years and has frequently attended events organized by IHL. After spending this time as a participant, he finally decided to start organizing events centered around his hobbies, particularly board games. A passionate enthusiast, Thomas enjoys all types of board games and often hosts gatherings at his home.

Pez, originally from the UK, is a digital nomad who settled in Leuven after several years of full time travel. He’s been here since 2020, and loves hosting events and activities for friends, family and people in town. At the weekend you’re likely to find him playing board games, hosting a gathering of friends, planning for his non-profit camping festival, or off exploring somewhere

International House Leuven organizes a coffee morning for those of you who like to chat and meet some friendly (new) faces. It's also a good place to ask questions, get answers and find out about what’s happening in Leuven. Our coffee morning is what you make it. So pop in and out whenever you like, see who is there, and say hi!

We meet every two weeks on Friday morning, usually at the International House Leuven itself although we tour coffee houses occasionally as well. More on that below.

Who's "we"? Well it varies a bit, but our regular hosts are IHL staff member, Anna, or Evelyne, one of the IHL volunteers. Generally we're anything between 5 to 20 participants, a nice mix of regulars and new folks. And we have room for more!

The practicalities:

• the coffee morning goes from 10:30 until noon. Feel free to pop in and out at any point, no need to stay the entire time if that doesn't suit your own timing
• the location of the event will always be up to date on the Meetup event page.
• ask the event volunteer to add you to the Whatsapp group so you can keep up to date with venue changes and other last minute things.
• walk-ins are very welcome too!
