Day trip EcoTour to National Park and volcanoes Izta Popo

Details

Let´s explore the wonderful National Park and volcanoes Iztaccihuatl, a dormant volcano at 5230 meters, in the shape of a sleeping woman and Popocatépetl, an active volcano at 5426 meters; Mexico´s third and second highest peaks, at around 2.5 hours from Mexico City, in the State of Mexico.

The hike is not too heavy, we go from 3800 to around 4200 meters, we will take enough time to acclimatize and you can make the trip as tough as you want (by just taking in the amazing views, fresh air and lovely nature or by optionally hiking towards the Izta volcano).

We will also visit the Paso de Cortes; this name derives from the fact that in 1519 Hernán Cortés and his men, after the battle and massacre of Cholula, marched over this pass to the valley of Mexico and city of Tenochtitlán in order to confront the Aztecs and their emperor Moctezuma. It is said (but also denied) that some of Cortés' men climbed Popocatépetl at this time, lowered each other into the crater, and brought back sulphur to make gunpowder with.

During this trip we will explore the State of Mexico.
