Autumn Hamilton Gardens and Waikato River Ramble

We will meet at Hamilton Gardens just over an hour and a half drive from Auckland to explore the garden and parts of Hamilton. We will park in the Camelia car park Gate 2, Hamilton Gardens Road, Hamilton East, Hamilton 3204. Don't use the entrance at the roundabout, instead use gate 2 which is opposite Grey Street.

We will explore the garden for an hour and a half, hopefully before it gets too busy. We will walk through the park to the Waikato River and walk towards the city before returning to the gardens. We will stop at one of our favourite ice cream shops after lunch.

At the end of the walk there will be time for those who want to continue exploring the various gardens from around the world. It will be about 14.5 Kms.

Bring good footwear, raincoat, sunhat/sunscreen, water, lunch and snacks. Have a plastic bag for wet and muddy shoes at the end of the walk and spare shoes to change into. It has been suggested that you might like to bring an umbrella to create shade and incase of the light showers. Hamilton may be a bit cooler than Auckland.

Lots of great photograph opportunities so you may want to bring your camera.

Please note we will begin to request a gold coin donation for participation in order to cover some of the costs incurred by the leaders for their organisation. Items such as outdoor magazine subscriptions, safety equipment (eg PLB) and the website costs etc.

Group members have indicated that they like to walk in a smaller group with a preferred maximum of 25. Therefore the limit on our walks will remain at 25. Thank you for your understanding :-) We will leave on time in fairness to the whole group.
