Experimenting with Embedded Swift on ESP32-C6 talking to I2C sensor
Swift is typically known for writing iOS and Mac OS apps — but what if it ran on a microcontroller? Apple introduced Embedded Swift in WWDC 2024 for this purpose.
In this talk, you'll see how to run Embedded Swift on the ESP32-C6 and communicate directly with I²C sensors like the Bosch environmental sensor.
Talk will cover getting Embedded Swift up and running with ESP-IDF SDK, interoperability with C libraries and using uncommon APIs like UnsafePointer.
It will also cover how AI was used in this project to speed up development effort as well as its limitations.
Yeo Kheng Meng is an Embedded Security Researcher at CSIT with 10 years experience in embedded hardware, software and firmware development.
7:40pm:
Explore Liquid Glass and Foundation Models from WWDC25
At WWDC25, Apple announced a host of new features, including a new design system — Liquid Glass, and a new framework — Foundation Models.
In this talk, you’ll learn about the how Liquid Glass works and how it can be implemented into your app, in addition, you’ll see how Foundation Models can be implemented into your apps, allowing you to tap into powerful built-in on-device large language models.
Yee Jia Chen
Jia Chen is a student developer with a passion for building apps across Apple platforms and supporting the Swift student community. He develops apps both independently and for companies like BERNINA, a Swiss embroidery machine manufacturer. In addition to app development, he teaches Swift and organises student events and programmes. Jia Chen is a two-time Swift Student Challenge winner (2020, 2021), an Apple Certified Trainer, and has been featured on Apple.
