What we’re about
Welcome to our Silver Spokes Cycling Meetup Group! We are a community of senior women cyclists (aged 50 and above) who enjoy leisurely rides ranging from 10 to 20 miles. Our low-key, social group is perfect for those looking to meet new cycling buddies and explore the beautiful bike paths of Irvine, CA. Whether you're new to cycling or a seasoned rider, join us for laid-back rides and good company. Let's pedal together and enjoy the scenic routes Irvine has to offer!
Helmets are required. Both road bikes and e-bikes are welcome. Beach cruisers are not permitted on our group rides. We don't encourage throttle-powered e-bikes, but you will be okay to ride with us if you can fit in with the group pace.
We will ride regularly on Saturday morning from Irvine Civic Center Parking at 9 AM. To begin, rides will take place mostly on bike paths near the park. We may venture out as the group grows in size. I will occasionally plan a ride on a weekday or a Sunday. But, you should not expect that rides will regularly occur other than on Saturday.
We will adjust the pace to the experience of the riders, and rides will be "no-drop" (no rider left behind). However, you must be able to ride safely and be in control of your bike.
Cyclists will observe basic cycling safety rules such as passing only on the left, calling out ("on your left") when passing, calling out hazards, and obeying traffic signals.

We meet at the Irvine Civic Center parking lot. You can enter the parking lot from Harvard Avenue by turning on Civic Center Plaza. Look for us on the right near the entrance to Bill Barber Park. We will ride out at 9:00 AM. This is out-and-back for a total of 13.8 miles and it's pretty flat. Please come early to get your bike ready (if this is your first ride with the group, the suggested arrival time is 8:30 AM.).
The Route:
This is a scenic route down the Mountain to Sea Trail down to the beautiful Upper Newport Bay. We are entirely on bike paths in both directions. Click here to preview or download this week's route.
It might be fun to have a quick picnic at the bay, so consider packing something simple to eat.
Safety First:
Helmets are mandatory for all rides.
We will be observing standard bicycle safety rules, and whenever there are new riders, the host will give a short safety speech before we ride.
Tail lights are highly recommended when we are traveling on surface roads. We do this only for short segments on wide bike lanes.
Water bottles are important for hydration. You should rehydrate at least every 20 minutes.
