Wiki Conference NYC this weekend | OneWebDay BuddyPress | ISOC-NY TV

Already! The last weekend before Labor Day! And what better to do than
toodle down to 721 Broadway for the 2nd Annual Wiki-Conference NYC
which will be happening both Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday's line-up is particularly attractive with a Clay Shirky
keynote at the very reasonable hour of 11:50am. This will be followed
by lunch and a "Wiki Wormhole" hookup with Belgrade - essentially
Skype, a projector, and a mic at each end. Then Lightning Talks at
1pm, and a choice of two concurrent tracks - ISOC-NY will be involved
in the B track, so look out for us there talking about our video
efforts and the new NYCwiki. Sunday's line-up is definitely more
accented at the hard-core wiki types, with a keynote from Sue Gardner,
Executive Director of the Wikimedia Foundation.

The other thing I'd like to mention is that last weeks WordPressNYC
meetup - Installing WordPres and BuddyPres from Scratch - was very
illuminating. Unfortunately I am yet to receive clearance from
organizer Steve Bruner to post the video, but it's coming! What one
hadn't known is that the new (1.2) version of BP can be installed on a
single site WordPress - no need for multiple blogs etc. - or any blogs
at all for that matter. Essentially a free social network in abox. I
wasted no time in putting it in on the OneWebDay2010 site, where it
can be seen functioning in all its glory. http://onewebday2...

OneWebDay is making progress, with events already planned in London,
Melbourne, NYC, and 3 Indian cities.

Lastly a reminder that the ISOC-NY tv program will be screening next
Wednesday 1 September 2010 at 11.30am on MNN Ch.56. This week's
program will feature the recent hackNY 2010 Demofest where hackNY
student fellows demonstrated the results of their efforts working at
NYC tech firms over the summer. Don't miss the clip of Justin Bieber
on the Segway, or the details of how OkCupid matches the lovelorn.
