Istanbul Community for Foreigners and English Speakers

Pub Quiz Nights continue at Yabangee Base in Cihangir, and on Monday 5 October we’re turning back the clock for Soundcheck: An All Music Quiz, this time dedicated to the music of the 1980s and 1990s.

From defining hits and massive artists to songs you haven’t heard in years but somehow still know every word to, Soundcheck will move through two iconic decades of music across pop, rock, hip-hop, R&B, alternative, dance, electronic, and everything in between. The focus will be largely international, with minimal Turkish music, so expect a soundtrack built around songs and artists heard around the world.
This one is less about memorizing music trivia and more about knowing what you’re hearing. The majority of the quiz will involve listening to music and identifying songs and artists, alongside a selection of other music-based questions and challenges.

The night begins with a social meetup at 19:30, giving everyone time to arrive, grab a drink, meet some people, and settle in. The quiz starts at 20:30 sharp and will wrap up around 21:30–22:00. Guests are welcome to stay afterward and keep hanging out.

Important details:
• Monday 5 October
• Social Meetup from 19:30, quiz starts at 20:30
• Quiz answers are submitted on your phone, so please make sure your device has enough battery
• Come early for better table selection
• Prizes for the top 3 teams
• No cash prizes
• Questions are in both English and Turkish
• Music covers the 1980s and 1990s
• The music selection is predominantly international, with minimal or possibly even no Turkish music
• The quiz will largely focus on listening to and identifying songs and artists

House rules:
• No outside food or drink
• Indoor space is non-smoking
• Event is 18+

Come for the quiz. Stay for the music, the arguments over who sang what, and the inevitable moment when a song you haven’t heard since the ’90s starts playing and you somehow recognize it within three seconds.

Note: This is a community-first event at heart, created to bring people together in a relaxed and social setting. We’ve added a minimal ticket fee primarily to encourage stronger RSVPs and to give us a clearer sense of attendance in advance. This allows us to plan seating, staffing, and the overall setup more thoughtfully, helping ensure a smoother and more enjoyable night for everyone.

Join us at Yabangee Base for Bad Art & Drinks, a relaxed creative night hosted by Öykü G. where there’s no pressure to be talented, artistic, or even particularly sure what you’re doing.
Throughout the evening, we’ll have some simple prompts and ideas to help get things started, but there are no rules about what you make or how seriously you take it. Draw something terrible, experiment with an idea, make something weird, or simply see where the night takes you.
We’ll have some basic materials available to get you started, but this isn’t a fully equipped art workshop. You’re very welcome to bring your own sketchbook, pencils, paints, markers, or whatever else you’d like to work with.
More than anything, this is a social night: grab a drink, meet some people, make something questionable, and enjoy being creative without worrying about whether the end result is actually any good.
Low stakes. Questionable art. Great people.
