β FAQ
- Have I ever kayaked before? Do I need experience?
- No experience needed! This is a very beginner-friendly river, and we'll mostly be using two-person kayaks β so if you've never kayaked before, we'll pair you with someone who has. No worries at all!
- Do I need to be a good swimmer?
- We recommend wearing clothes you don't mind getting wet, bringing sunscreen, and wearing water-friendly shoes. Don't forget water and any snacks you'd like β no food will be provided at the event!
- What happens if it rains?
- If it rains, the event will be rescheduled. We'll send everyone an email the morning of to let you know!
- What if the water level is too low?
- It's been a dry spring, but rain is in the forecast for the week before our trip, which should bring the river level up! If it's still too low, we'll pivot to a hike instead. We'll email everyone on Wednesday, April 29th, to let you know whether we're kayaking or hiking β so stay tuned!
- Is there a cost to attend?
- Yes β tickets are $47 per person.
- Can I bring my kid?
- Yes! But please check with the kayaking rental place for age restrictions and anything else you may need to know.
- Can I bring my own kayak?
- Yes! You can bring your own kayak if you have one, and you'll only pay a small fee for the van transport.
- Will there be food?
- No, please bring water and any snacks you may want.
- Is the venue ADA accessible?
- Unfortunately, this event isn't ADA accessible β getting in and out of a kayak makes it difficult to accommodate. That said, we make a point to balance inaccessible events with ones that are, so keep an eye out for our next event, which will be accessible to everyone!
- I'm a man, can I attend your event?
- We would like to keep our meetups as much for women and women-identifying members as possible, so we ask that you maybe skip this one. BUT we are planning Ally events and an Ally channel in NashDev in the future so that we can include more people in what we're doing. Stay tuned!
- I'm non-binary, trans, and/or queer. Am I welcome at this event?
- YES! If you've taken a look at our organization and you identify with us, then we welcome you with open arms. Come join our crew.
- I have a question that isn't answered here. How do I ask?
- You can talk to us directly through our NashDev channel. Just look for the #it-girls channel or follow this link: https://nashdev.slack.com/archives/C089XTGT33R. Not a NashDev member? You can join via their application form here: https://nashdev.com/slack.
