About us

This Meetup is for listeners of the podcast 'Impariamo l’italiano piano piano' and for learners of Italian who want to study the language through real episodes, stories, and explanations from the podcast, We Learn Italian Step by Step.

Based between Italy and Canada. Events are online. In these online meetups, we work through selected podcast episodes together. Each meeting focuses on:

Language you heard in the episode

Grammar points explained in context

Expressions and phrases that are easy to miss when listening alone

Time to ask questions and practice understanding and use

These are guided classes, but they are calm, supportive, and paced piano piano. The goal is not perfection, but clarity and confidence.

Classes are suitable for learners who already have some basic Italian and want to deepen their understanding through listening, discussion, and structured guidance. English is used when helpful, especially for explanations.

All meetings are held online and are based directly on podcast content, so listening to the episode beforehand is recommended.

In this guided online session, we'll work through Episodes 4 and 5, together with Bonus Episode 4, of the podcast Impariamo l'italiano piano piano, continuing Mariella's story as an ordinary autumn evening becomes the moment everything begins to change.
These meetup sessions follow the grammar topics explored in the podcast through the ongoing story Le Pagine del Passato, where grammar is introduced gradually through real situations, conversations, and the unfolding mystery surrounding Mariella's family history.
This session is best suited to learners who have some familiarity with Italian grammar and have been following along with the podcast.
In these episodes, we begin building one of the most important foundations for talking about completed actions in Italian: the passato prossimo.
    Together, we'll explore:

    • how the passato prossimo is formed using avere and the past participle
    • when to use essere instead of avere
    • how past participles agree with the subject when essere is used
    • common irregular past participles and the patterns that make them easier to remember
    • how the passato prossimo moves a story forward, while the imperfetto provides the background
    • guided practice and discussion with Antonio, our custom tutor

We'll also revisit the next chapters of Le Pagine del Passato as Zina arrives carrying a mysterious package, and together we'll see how the shift from imperfetto to passato prossimo signals that the story has begun to move from description to action.
This meetup will introduce a new version of our custom GPT tutor, Antonio, created specifically for Episodes 4 and 5. Through guided prompts, questions, and interactive practice, Antonio will help us reinforce the concepts from the podcast and apply them through a variety of exercises, including story based practice drawn directly from these episodes.
The session is structured but relaxed. We'll pause often for questions and observations as we work through the examples together and connect the grammar to real Italian usage.

What to do before the meetup (optional)
If possible, listen to these podcast episodes beforehand. Many participants enjoy listening first and then using the meetup to practise, clarify, and notice patterns more deeply.
    Recommended episodes:

Bonus Episode 4 is available to show supporters and provides additional guided practice, review, and mini quizzes covering the key concepts from Episodes 4 and 5. Supporters also receive the study guides for these episodes and a promo code to attend this meetup free of charge.
    What to bring
Just yourself, curiosity, and your questions. A notebook is optional, but not required.
    Language
Both Italian and English will be used. Explanations are in English, with Italian examples throughout.
This is not an exam prep class and not a lecture. It's a calm, supportive space where we slow down, notice patterns, revisit the story, and make Italian make sense piano piano.

    Ci vediamo!
