What we’re about
The Gurdjieff Teaching
George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff was born in the Caucasus of Greek and Armenian parents, circa 1870. As a young man his unrelenting questions about the nature and meaning of our existence fueled his extensive search. He traveled throughout Central Asia and the Middle East and came in contact with schools and practitioners of ancient teachings that had been passed down orally from earliest time. After many years of study and practice Gurdjieff went on to develop a spiritual tradition, based on ancient teachings, that is alive and relevant in today’s world.
With attentiveness practices key to a work toward awakening, the teaching is transmitted through group meetings with an experienced guide, sitting meditation, movements (sacred dance), music, writings, discussion, and practical work with others.
Upon meeting this work, we join others around the globe who have embarked on a path to a life of consciousness and compassion that springs from a deepening connection with our truest self.
Barry Perlus and Anna Salamone have been students of the Gurdjieff work for many years and have been leading groups in Ithaca NY since 2002. We are affiliated with the Rochester Gurdjeff Center. http://rochestergurdjieffcenter.org
