What we’re about

The Greater Boston chapter of IxDA, the Interaction Design Association, is a volunteer-run, donation-funded, non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the discipline of interaction design.

We are a community of professionals, founded in 2003, who are passionate about improving how we interact with the artifacts, environments, and systems we use and inhabit… and ultimately improving how humans interact with each other.

Interaction Design (IxD) as a discipline seeks to define the structure and behavior of interactive systems. Interaction designers strive to create meaningful relationships between people and the products and services that they use. Our focus is behavior, flow, and dialogue, but we work with product teams and other UX disciplines– including visual design, industrial design, service design, and design research– to co-create form and behavior for an optimal user experience.

Our mission is to bring an interaction-centric, design-focused POV to the Greater Boston UX community, and to highlight the many areas of domain expertise represented by our membership: Healthcare, Robotics, Financial, Audio, AI, Travel, and more.

We’re not a professional organization in the traditional sense: we don’t care if you call yourself an interaction designer or not, and we don't charge dues (but donations are welcome). Our membership includes designers, developers, academics, product managers, and design researchers, at all levels of experience.
