May 17, 10AM: Don’t (DO) Go Chasing Waterfalls – Cedar Run Falls 6ish miles

Details
I am doing a series of “Don’t (DO) Go Chasing Waterfalls” hikes to explore the beautiful waterfalls in Virginia (and maybe elsewhere). On these adventures we will be stopping at the falls to take pictures, have a snack or lunch and play in the water.
The first waterfall hike in this series will be Cedar Run falls.
Difficulty: Challenging
Distance: 6ish miles
Elevation Gain: 2230’
What to Pack in your Daypack Suggestions:
· Lunch, water, drinks, plenty of snacks
· Change of clothes or Swimwear
· Shoes to get wet
· Towel
· Ziplock or dry bag to protect phone, keys etc.
· Sunscreen, Bug Spray, Hat, First Aid Kit
· Water Filter
· Seat Pad
The Cedar Run Trail is accessible from the Hawksbill Gap Parking Area on Skyline Drive. The trail heads downhill following Cedar Run passing several swimming holes and ends at the Whiteoak Boundary Parking Area just outside the park boundary. The trail is rocky, so good footwear is recommended. Be prepared for the uphill hike to return to the starting point.
