Aug 15, 9 AM ~ Pump House to Texas Beach Hike

We will meet by the Pump House, (not in the parking lot at the north end of the Nickel Bridge) so we can start this 3.8 mile hike off with a look at the Pump House. Then we'll pick up the North Bank Trail and follow it past Maymont to the Texas Beach area. From there we will do some urban hiking to Maymont and take a loop around the grounds. A short cut to the Carillon will bring us to the Dogwood Dell Trail which will return us to the Pump House.
This hike will begin at the posted time, not five or ten minutes later. If you are unfamiliar with the meet up location, add a few minutes to your travel schedule so you can find us. Click on the small map found under "How To Find Us" in the Event Description. A larger interactive map will appear. You can then select "Directions" (upper left) and the best route from your location to the Meet Up rendezvous spot will be calculated. Before the hike be sure to place anything that might invite theft in your trunk before you leave your car parked while you are hiking.
Some ability to negotiate tree roots, rustic trails, low hanging vines and branches, toxic plants, culverts, reptiles, damp trail conditions, deer, stairs, spider webs, fallen trees, scorpions, birds of prey, and river rocks is required.
What to bring: Water bottle, clothing appropriate for the season, pepper spray, practical footwear, insect repellent, dry clothes, band aids and any other accessories your own personal condition may require. Hiking sticks/trekking poles are a good idea if you are challenged by rough terrain.
Primitive restroom facilities are available at the Pump House and Texas Beach. Water may be available in season at the Pump House. Do not attempt to meet us in the North Bank Trail parking lot or the Pump House parking lot or at Barker Field or at the parking lot that services Dogwood Dell and the Carillon. We will not be there.
