Konnichiwa,
I’m Paul the organiser of this group and a long-time Japan enthusiast. Japanese music was a big start to me learning Japanese. I’ve travelled to Japan many times over the years and love many aspects of it — from the culture and food to the music and scenery. And much more!
This group is all about bringing people together who share an interest in Japan and the UK, whether you’re a fluent speaker, learner, traveler, or have a genuine interest in Japan.
We aim to create an informal and friendly space for:
Language exchange (Japanese ↔ English)
Meeting new people and networking
Sharing experiences of travel and life in Japan or the UK
Talking about culture from folk to anime, music, food, and wider!
Whether you’ve lived in Japan, are planning a first trip, learning the language, or just love the culture — you’re welcome to our events.

Yutaro Ogida and H2P Shamisen with band + DJ Mika live, 11th September
The Hope and Anchor, 207 Upper St, Islington, N1 1RL, London, GBThis will be a great night of classic and psychedelic rock alongside a live shamisen band, with some Japanese 80's music in-between. We have Yutaro Ogida across from Japan alongside H2P, a live band featuring Shamisen master Hibiki Ichikawa and the guitarist with "magic fingers", Hide Takamoto. We also have the talented DJ Mika playing some lovely Japanese sentimental tracks from the 80's!

Japanese singer-songwriter and guitarist, Yutaro Ogida was born in Tokyo. He spent his early childhood in New York and attended high
school in London where he started playing guitar. After going back to Japan in the 1990's, he joined Wouassi Vincent's Afrorock band, The Roots Band. Apart from his solo activities, he is also known for his participation in the Pink Floyd tribute band "Primordial God Mother" with Takehiko "shake" Kogure and others, and Takashi O'hashi & The Sound Torus, a solo band by Takashi Ohashi (Holy Hunger II).
