Hey JavaScriptLA fans. We are proud to announce that our August meet in Orange County will feature best selling JavaScript programming author, Douglas Crockford! If you needed an excuse to get away from LA for a bit, here you go!
On this highly educational meetup we are going to debut a completely new talk about Character Sets, and how decisions made long ago still affect us here in the future. I estimate that the talk will be about an hour, plus more for QA.
JavaScript programs are written using the Unicode character set. Unicode is a superset of ASCII and Latin-1 and supports virtually every written language currently used on the planet. ECMAScript 3 requires JavaScript implementations to support Unicode version 2.1 or later, and ECMAScript 5 requires implementations to support Unicode 3 or later.
About the Presenter:
Douglas Crockford is an American (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) computer programmer (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_programmer) and entrepreneur who is best known for his ongoing involvement in the development of the JavaScript (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JavaScript) language, for having popularized the data format JSON (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JSON) (JavaScript Object Notation), and for developing various JavaScript related tools such as JSLint (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JSLint) and JSMin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minification_(programming)). He is currently a senior JavaScript architect at PayPal (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PayPal), and is also a writer and speaker on JavaScript, JSON, and related web technologies.
Douglas is known for his book "JavaScript: The Good Parts"
He is often referred as the author of JavaScript!
