What we’re about

Welcome to the Jacksonville Capoeira Training Group!

What is capoeira? an Afro-Brazilian art form which blends martial arts, dance, and music. Capoeira was created by African slaves in Brazil during the colonial era to develop their fighting skills to survive the slavery. Long after the slavery era, it has become a national sport of Brazil, and it is being practiced all around the world.

Capoeira has been featured in movies such as Only the Strong, The Protector 2 and many others.

JOCTG's Goal: To ignite the love and passion for capoeira in Jacksonville area! I fell in love with the capoeira community in Hawaii and I hope to bring some of that aloha to Duval.

This training group is open to capoeiristas/martial artists of all groups and styles as long as you come with positive energy.

I hope to start with weekly open training sessions then progress to bringing higher level practitioners for workshops, participating in open rodas, and traveling to surrounding capoeira events.

The organizer: I am Omercego. I am a lifelong martial artist. I have a black belt in kung fu, studied taiji in depth, have had some boxing and traditional jiu jitsu training. I spent the last year and 1/2 training capoeira under CM-Bala with Capoeira da Mata (formerly CDO Hawaii) 3x's a week.
After exhausting options to find a group here in Jax and getting my teacher's blessing, I'm starting this training group.
