Death Over Dinner with Havdalah
Details
Let's Have DINNER and Talk About Death and HAVDALAH
The way we die is the most important conversation American Jews are not having.
We believe that talking about death not only better prepares us to approach life’s most challenging moments, but also helps us articulate and affirm who we are and what we most care about.
Join us for a potluck dinner and Havdalah.
Talking about death is the single most life-affirming thing you can do. The ritual of breaking bread with others slows us down, creates warmth and connection, and puts us in touch with our humanity—ideal conditions to share vulnerability about a hard topic.
At this dinner, expect facilitated discussion in small groups about how your Judaism informs your own thoughts and feelings about mortality, your soul, your dying plan, how you wish to be remembered, how we remember and hold space for others, and more.
This is an adults-only evening for sharing food and some of our most profound feelings. Please feel free to invite friends and family to join you. If you’ve been trying to talk with someone in your family about death, this is a safe space to start that conversation.
Advance registration is required by July 15, 2026, so we will know how many guests to expect and can set up space accordingly. This is a dairy/vegetarian potluck. Please use this sign-up link to indicate what you plan to bring.
Death Over Dinner Jewish Edition is the brain-child of REBOOT, and we are grateful to them for this opportunity to bring Death Over Dinner to the Shir Hadash Community. For questions, please email Allison at [4everblakley@gmail.com](mailto:4everblakley@gmail.com)
