Solidaritätslauf at Münsterplatz

An annual charity fun run on Bern's Münsterplatz, organised by the Berner Beratungsstelle für Sans-Papiers to fund its free legal and advice service for people without residence papers. The organisers frame it as a shared act, not a race for a podium: "Mit dem Solidaritätslauf setzen wir mit dem Lauf ein Zeichen für Menschlichkeit, den Zugang zu Rechten für alle und gegen Ausgrenzung." Runners register individually or as a team and complete laps of a short course for up to 45 minutes in one of four waves starting at 14:00, 15:00, 16:00 and 17:00; sponsors then pledge money per lap run, so the money is raised by the pledges rather than by an entry fee. Spontaneous sign-ups on the day itself are explicitly welcomed: "Auch spontane Anmeldungen am Lauftag sind möglich." Prizes go to the most successful and the most original runners and teams, and entry is free.
