Monthly Joomla! Meetup

Monthly Joomla! Meetup

Details

Our April meetup will feature two short presentations. We'll do our meet and greet as usual at the beginning and jump right in to the topics.

We've had a great turnout and great meetings so far this year, we hope to see you there! Please RSVP to let us know you're coming and feel free to post any questions or concerns below.

Karen Dunne of Maven Design Studios presenting :
Business Standards talk

Flying solo takes courage, trust, and vulnerability. Compared to the perceived certainty of W2 employment, small business owners and freelancers may feel out of control, meaning that they let clients set the terms and conditions under which they work. That’s like working for an employer but without medical benefits. By creating your own list of business standards, you set the stage for a rewarding work environment, according to what you value. Without standards, we are at the affect of what ever morsel of work comes our way, possibly putting you in the demoralizing position of doing work you despise, for clients you don’t like, just because you need the money (granted sometimes you do just need the money). If the criteria under which you are willing to work is not outlined, you will not rise to the level where you can be selective about the projects you work on. This list, call it your ten commandments or your rules of engagement, can bring a mental leap forward, a sense of control, confidence, and profits. We'll talk about the benefits of making such a list and what might go on it. This will likely open up a lively discussion on successes, failures, and lessons learned.

Cliff Pfeifer of the Denver Joomla User Group presenting :
Joomla! Core Concepts part one : Article Layouts

I'm often asked which extension is the best for blogs, galleries, testimonials, listings or other content displays. While there are a lot of great extensions out there, these features can be accomplished in Joomla! without the aid of additional plugins, extensions or templates. Knowing the basics of the Joomla! content structures and parameters you can get more from Joomla! by using it's strengths to your advantage.

This will be the first in a series of tutorials and presentations designed to show the power of Joomla! core features and concepts. This time we'll cover the basic settings for the default Joomla! Article settings and menu item layouts, and several different ways to use them in your Joomla! website.

=>Please park in front of the Cable Center (facing Buchtel).

=>Then come into the building to get a parking pass.

=>You must return to your car to place the pass on your dashboard.

The parking is free. Sometimes there is an event at the Cable Center that will require us to park in the larger lot to the west, but that is still free, but requires a pass. <=

Look forward to seeing you all and meeting our new members.
