Organ Needle

Needle trail, about 8 miles round trip, 4000' elevation gain, takes somewhere between 8 to 10 hours to do it. Simply look at the Needle from the Las Cruces side should give one an idea of the difficulty level of the hike.
Last time we went up there was January 20, 2013. Deep snow added some excitement to that. This time, the snow should have melted. It's not that cold anymore, and not hot yet. The wind is calm. The sunshine makes it nice and cozy to be on the Needle. These days could be good days to do the Needle hike.
Meet us at Milagro Coffee at 7:30 am or 8:00am at La Cueva Picnic Area parking lot of Dripping Springs.

Jim, could you repost these photos on this site?

After Jim’s shopping, and my errands, we met Timmy at Empire Buffet around 5:00 pm, to stuff ourselves with meats and seafood, vegetables and fruits. And Timmy claimed he made the complete round trip just a minute or two over 5 hours! Well, normally you hear somebody spout something like that, you would asking what he was drinking, but as some of you guys know, he’s totally dry…
Nick, at that time, might have kicked up his feet somewhere, having beer and wings, watching football, snickering secretly at the slow asses he just hiked with, and feeling very good…
I do ponder of having a race up the Needle, and back to the parking lot, only for the spirit of sportsmanship, nothing else…

Nice hike. Less than three hours to make to the top. Made me to take a pause and rethink the legendary 5 hour record, hmmm ...
Nick and Jim, these fresh, young legs gave me a serious run. Especially Nick, for him, running up Organ Needle was like nothing! And of course, I could always use the previous day 27 miler as an excuse. Very convenient, isn’t it?
And Timmy did Timmy usually does. We did not get to see his face until we came back and got below Juniper Saddle, and he was walking up like a zombie. He asked about where we were going for dinner…

Let's wait and see who else is signing up. Again, if just you and me, we might start later and have a lazy day:)

Never mind, 800 should be fine. I got my schedule messed up. I should be OK to get there.
