This hike is about 6 miles total distance, with about 2000 feet of climbing, and it takes about 7 hours.
The Ocotillo Hikers, these brave youngsters, who got nothing better to do but hike, found the connection on the ridge between Ice Canyon and Little Ice Canyon. They are an admirable bunch.
Though we did both Ice Canyon and Little Ice Canyon before, the whole hike is still an exploratory adventure for us.
The Ocotillos described it thus, "Both of the Ice Canyon hikes, by themselves, are major challenges. Combining them into one adventure will increase the difficulty factor many times over."
It is with a lot of exposed steep climbing, both in bedrock canyons, and loose scree heading toward the ridge. This is one of the Ocotillos' 'Ultimate Challenge' hikes. Comes to climbing and scrambling, it is right up there with the Organ Needle hike. The hike is amazingly beautiful, still, the effort and skills involved should make hikers take pause and rethink.
