The hike is about 7 miles long, 3500 elevation gain, takes about 6-8 hours. Strenuous, a typical Organ Mountains hike.
The hike starts at Soledad Canyon, Bar Canyon day use area parking lot. Walk towards the waterfall; ascend the ridge on the left before reach the waterfall; traverse east along the north side of the canyon where the stream supplies water for the waterfall; climb up the scree area; turn left on the ridge and summit Great Baldy.
Steep climbing, loose scree, a far cry from a beginner hike. The organizer has read or heard other hikers' description of this hike, he has yet to do it himself. That naturally adds a lot of uncertainty to the hike. Experienced hikers only. Experienced hikers with adventurous spirit, that is.
