Winter Peak

This is a local hike to an overlook above the Space Museum near Alamogordo. It is about 4.5 miles and 1500' round trip. Not a long hike, but expect seasonable temps. It uses a dirt road, but it is rough. A nice evening hike taking about 2 to 3 hours. We can meet at the location, and car pool to the trail head, or I can give directions to the trailhead.

Remember to bring a poncho, in case of rain.   The part near the peak and on the ridge is not long, so you don't have to be super concerned with lightning. No more than on the A trail and Ortega Peak.

Sounds like a great hike! As usual, if only Monday were part of the weekend…

Are you taking off from the gun range? I volunteer that day... and I have not been hiking... but... that is a nice hike. Would you be interested in approaching it from the West side?

Please let me know exactly where you meet, as the "East side of Intersection" does not really show a parking ... trailhead would be better for me to meet. Where is the trailhead? Thx.

The trailead is easy to find: From Alamogordo, take US 82 east towards Cloudcroft. Between mile post 5 and 6 turn right, entering Dry Canyon across a cattleguard. Park at the bottom of the hill past the cattleguard. First road on your right at the bottom is the trail. There is a shooting range here, and You are about 1 mile or so below the tunnel.
